Andhra Pradesh is the only state with multiple kshetras of Lord Narasimha and Laskhmi devi. Ahobilam, Kadiri, Simhachalam & Penchalakona etc are most famous in the state. But A special place called Malakonda Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple was open to devotees for only on saturdays. All the remaining temple open every day but this temple was the prime kshetra for saturday darshan only. Malakonda means flower shaped hill. It is derived from the sthala purana that Devas, Kinneras, Gandharvas, Sages, Rishis & Yakshas prayed to Lord Mahavishnu for his Narasimha darshan. Lord Vishnu granted them a special place for worship in his Narasimha form by manifesting on Malakonda hill. During 6 days of the week from Sunday to Friday the temple is closed and devas, rishis will visit the temple to offer prayers.
Malakonda can be accessed by road from Kandukur & Pamur by road. It is well connected with a temple constructed ghat road, steps from below. A shiva linga installed in a cave also designates this place as a sacred one. Lord Dattatreya swamy of Mogilicherla had done severe penance many years on top of Malakonda hill and got moksha. Mogilicherla Dattatreya temple is 8 kilometers from Malakonda and devotees visit both of them in a single visit. Sage Agastya was the first one to get the darshan of Lord Narasimha swamy for his penance in form of supreme light. So Malakonda swamy was also called jwala narasimhudu. The hill also consists of various theertham or ponds which are holy to worship.
