Bhairavakona waterfalls or Sri Bhiraveswara swamy cave temples is the best weekend get away for people in Prakasam District region. Bhiravakona is reached by road only from udayagiri in nellore district & seetharampuram in Prakasam district. The forest region was a part of Eastern Ghats & Nallamala Reserve Forest. The cave temples have 8 Different Shiva lingas, Trimuka Durga Devi, Bhairava Swamy idols, Sidda purusha idols etc are main attractions to see.
Bhairavakona Water Falls & Cave Temples History & Importance:
Many people believe the present day rock cut cave temples are sculpted in 9th or 8th century CE. The inscriptions of Sri Krishna Devaraya’s Vijayanagara Emprire shows the patronage of temples and its importance. Legend states that this places was the main center of sages, Rishis & Tapasyas who have installed more than 1 crore shivalings in various places of Bhairavakona valley. The waterfalls flows every day and it contains many medicinal properties. Bhariaveswara swamy was the guardian of the valley and its Shakti Temples of Trimukha Durga devi. There was a shiva linga, Bhirava Idol, Shakti Idol in the cave of waterfall.
Another legend also states that there is no entry for Shani in Bhairavakona area because of the curse by sages here. Crows which are vahana of Shani disturbed the meditation of rishis and their anger caused Shani to stay away from the forest. A single crow cannot be seen in the complete forest makes the legend true.
This area is also a military training place druing 10th century for Naga Bhairavas and other Tantric worshippers. Taking bath and holy dip in Waterfall Gundam relives from Black magic problems and clears sins accumulated via karma.

Sadguru Kasinayana Swamy Trust devotees have taken over the development activities in Bhairavakona. A big accommodation and Annadanam complex is constructed before reaching temple for night stay. Bhairavakona is in deep forest area and till 2010 Not many people stay for the night. Recently AP State govt endowment department also sanctioned many works like Sanitation rooms, Cloth changing areas for women & bio-toilets for visitors. Car parking is provided 0.5 Km before temple road.
Best Routes to reach Bhairavakona Cavte Temples & Waterfall Location:
People can reach Bhairavakona from Udayagiri or Seetharam Puram junction. There is no train facility for udayagiri. From Nellore you can travel via Udayagiri Podili Highway & From Ongole you can reach via Kanigiri & Pamur & Seetharampuram. APSRTC Runs shuttle service on every monday from Bhairavakona temple to bus depot. In karthika Masam All Mondays & Purnima special busses are provided for festival celebrations. Generally People visit Ghatika Siddeswaram & Bhairavakona on the same day and pray to Lord Bhairava & Siddeswara peacefully.
