Sammaka Sarakka Medaram Jatara History & Legend:
During 12th or 13th century Koya people were used to live under the patronage of Kakatiya chiefs and King PratapaRudra deva. At some time koya people dwelling in forests for gathering found a divine new baby girl child radiating with light playing among tigers in forest. The Koya tribe chief took her into hands and raised as a daughter and next leader of his Koya settlement. The child was married to padigadda raju the tribal chief of koyas and gave birth to Saralamma, Nagulamma & Jampanna. During an intense drought, the koyas are not able to pay their tax owed to Kakatiya kings. King issued orders to collect them forcibly and a battle took place between koya tribals & prataparudra army.
Sammakka lead the battle and fought valiantly after her husband Padigadda Raju was killed in the ensuing fight. Her daughter Nagulamma and his son in law were also killed & Jampanna was wounded severely fell into water stream turning the water red. The stream was named as Jampanna Vaagu. Sammakka affected by the battle left the place to reach the present day Chilakala Gutta hill and transformed into a Kunkuma Barani. The koya people recognized her as the manifestation of Adhi Shkati and started celebrating her sacrifice for 7 days every two years. Poeple offer Jaggery as prasad and naivedyam to Sammakka Sarakka throne in their weight.

Standard Checkin time of 24 hours is allowed max per one booking. Koya people houses also give hospitality services for tourists and Haritha Tourist guest houses also allows Rooms booking, Dormitory etc.
Forest tents cost 1000 rs per 12 hours checkin & 2000 rs per 24 hours checkin. The website will allow the rooms online booking one month before Medaram jatara date.
